I can’t come close to passing his torch, but the idea of it, I can. ![]() His mentorship and loyalty, all these years will forever be passed on to ones who cross my path. I truly believe he created and guided me in the industry path I have today. His signature opera was Douglas Moore’s The Ballad of Baby Doe.ĭean Beano Anthony writes: Hard for me to comprehend the passing of John Moriarty. He also worked at Santa Fe, Colorado, Wolf Trap, St Louis and Boston, coaching three generations of singers and making several notable recordings. The conductor and stage director John Moriarty, head of Central City Opera for two decades, died on January 5 aged 91.
